Why do you hide your face, and consider me your enemy?


Hᴇ works to the north, but I can’t see ʜɪᴍ. He turns south, but I can’t catch a glimpse of ʜɪᴍ.


When ʜᴇ remains quiet, who then can condemn? When he hides his face, who then can see him? Hᴇ is over a nation or a man alike,


My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?


Don’t hide your face from me. Don’t turn your servant away in anger. You have been my helper. Don’t abandon me, or forsake me, God of my salvation.


YHWH, when you favored me, made my mountain stand strong, but when you hid your face, I was terrified.


Why do you hide your face, and forget our affliction and our oppression?


For our soul is bowed down to the dust. Our body clings to the earth.


God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.


YHWH, why do you reject my soul? Why do you hide your face from me?


You hope of Israel, its Savior in the time of trouble, why should you be as a foreigner in the land, and as a wayfaring man who turns aside to stay for a night?


Why should you be like a dumbfounded person, like a warrior who can’t save? Yet you, YHWH, are in the middle of us, and we are called by your name. Don’t leave us.
