David counted the people who were with him, and set captains of thousands and captains of hundreds over them.


He said to him, “YHWH says, ‘Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life will take the place of his life, and your people take the place of his people.’”


The man of God was angry with him, and said, “You should have struck five or six times. Then you would have struck Syria until you had consumed it, but now you will strike Syria just three times.”


As soon as he came near to the camp, he saw the calf and the dancing. Then Moses’ anger grew hot, and he threw the tablets out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mountain.


Aaron said, “Don’t let the anger of my lord grow hot. You know the people, that they are set on evil.


Moses inquired-inquired about the goat of the sin offering, and found that it had been burned. He was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s remaining sons, saying,


Now the man Moses was very humble, more than anyone on the face of the earth.


Moses and Eleazar the priest, with all the leaders of the congregation, went out to meet them outside of the camp.


Moses said to them, “Have y’all allowed all the women to live?


The officers who were over the thousands of the army, the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds, came near to Moses.


“Y’all must be angry, but do not sin.” Don’t let the sun go down on y’all’s anger,


He will appoint them to him for captains of thousands and captains of fifties; and he will assign some to plow his ground and to reap his harvest; and to make his instruments of war and the instruments of his chariots.
