The earth was formless and empty. Darkness was on the surface of the deep and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.


I am poured out like water. All my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax. It is melted within me.


“I will also make it a possession for the porcupine, and pools of water. I will sweep it with the broom of destruction,” says YHWH Almighty.


Therefore my thighs are filled with anguish. Pains have seized me, like the pains of a woman in labor. I am in so much pain that I can’t hear. I am so dismayed that I can’t see.


Look, YHWH makes the earth empty, makes it waste, turns it upside down, and scatters its inhabitants.


Y’all should ask and consider: Can a male be in childbirth? Then why do I see every strong man with his hands on his stomach, like a woman in childbirth? Why have all their faces turned pale?


Concerning Damascus: “Hamath and Arpad are confounded, for they have heard evil news. They have melted away. There is sorrow on the sea. It can’t be quiet.


and say, ‘YHWH, you have said you will cut off this place so that no one will dwell in it, neither human nor animal, but that it will be desolate forever.’


I am broken for the brokenness of the daughter of my people. I mourn. Horror has taken hold of me.


When they ask you, ‘Why do you groan?’ you are to say, ‘Because of the news that is coming! Every heart will melt, all hands will be feeble, every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak as water. Yes, it is coming and it will be done, says Lord YHWH.’”


“Lord YHWH says: ‘In the day when he went down to Sheol, I caused a mourning. I covered the deep for him, and I restrained its rivers. The great waters were stopped. I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him.


Then the king’s face was changed in him, and his thoughts troubled him; and the joints of his thighs were loosened, and his knees struck one against another.


At their presence the peoples are in anguish. All faces have grown pale.


For YHWH restores the excellency of Jacob as the excellency of Israel, for the destroyers have destroyed them and ruined their vine branches.


It will happen that all those who look at you will flee from you, and say, ‘Nineveh is laid waste! Who will mourn for her?’ Where will I seek comforters for you?”


I have cut off nations. Their battlements are desolate. I have made their streets waste, so that no one passes by. Their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, so that there is no inhabitant.


When we heard this, our hearts melted, and the spirits of men wouldn’t rise because of y’all: for YHWH y’all’s God, ʜᴇ is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.


The men of Ai struck about thirty-six men of them. They chased them from before the gate even to Shebarim, and struck them at the descent. The hearts of the people melted, and became like water.
