Though this house is so high, yet everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss; and they will say, ‘Why has YHWH done this to this land and to this house?’


But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and even made his son to pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom YHWH cast out from before the children of Israel.


For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he raised up altars for Baal, and made an Asherah, as Ahab king of Israel did, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served them.


He did that which was evil in YHWH’s sight, as did Ahab’s house, for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his destruction.


Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, so as to provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands, therefore my wrath will be poured out on this place, and it will not be quenched.’”’


Blessed is the one who doesn’t walk according to the advice of the wicked, or stand in the path of sinners, or sit in the seat of scoffers!


You make us a reproach to our neighbors, a scoffing and a derision to those who are around us.


You make us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples.


He has swallowed up death forever! Lord YHWH will wipe away tears from off all faces. He will take the reproach of his people away from off all the earth, for YHWH has spoken it.


For those who lead this people lead them astray; and those who are led by them are destroyed.


I will make this city an astonishment and a hissing. Everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss because of all its plagues.


Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, with its kings and its officials, to make them a desolation, an horror, a hissing, and a curse, as it is today;


I will send and take all the families of the north,” says YHWH, “and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations around. I will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.


I will pursue them with the sword, famine, and pestilence, and I will deliver them to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth, to be an object of horror, an astonishment, a hissing, and a reproach among all the nations where I have driven them,


“We are ashamed because we have heard reproach. Disgrace covers our faces, because strangers have come into the sanctuaries of the house of YHWH.”


But they didn’t listen or turn their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.


Remember, YHWH, what has come on us. Look, and see our reproach.


They will forget their shame and all their trespasses by which they have trespassed against me, when they dwell securely in their land. No one will make them afraid


Lord, according to all your righteousness, please let your anger and your wrath be turned away from your city Jerusalem, your holy mountain; because for our sins and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and your people have become a reproach to all who are around us.


Ephraim has bitterly provoked anger. Therefore his blood will be left on him, and his Lord will repay his contempt.


Ephraim is oppressed, he is crushed in judgment, because he is intent in his pursuit of idols.


“Y’all must not prophesy!”—they prophesy. “Don’t prophesy about these things. Disgrace won’t overtake us.”


Therefore I also have struck you with a grievous wound. I have made you desolate because of your sins.


But I have this against you: that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. She teaches and leads my slaves astray to commit sexual immorality and eat food sacrificed to idols.
