Then she spoke, saying, “They used to say in old times, ‘They will ask-ask counsel at Abel,’ and that settled a matter.


He set judges in the land throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city,


The cities will be for y’all’s refuge from the avenger, so that person who kill someone will not die until he stands trial before the congregation.


“You have heard that it was said, ‘You must not commit adultery. ’


“Again you have heard that it was said to the ancients, ‘You must not make false vows, but fulfill to the Lord [YHWH] your vows,’


“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’


“Y’all have heard that it was said, ‘You are to love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’


You are to appoint judges and officers for all your town gates that YHWH your God gives you, according to your tribes. They are to judge the people with righteous judgment.


Whoever hates their sibling is a murderer, and y’all know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.
