‘My father made me swear, saying, “I am about to die. You are to bury me in my grave which I have dug for myself in the land of Canaan.” Now therefore, please let me go up and bury my father, and I will come again.’”


‘What are you doing here? Who has you here, that you have dug out a tomb here?’ Cutting himself out a tomb on high, chiseling a habitation for himself in the rock!”


They made his grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.


Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth


So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and leaving the guard.


Suddenly, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from the sky and came and rolled away the stone from the door and sat on it.


They found the stone rolled away from the tomb,


Then Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone lay against it.


So they took away the stone. Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me.


Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden. In the garden was a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid.


On the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.
