He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he didn’t open his mouth. As a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he didn’t open his mouth.


But Jesus stayed silent. The high priest answered him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.”


Then Pilate said to him, “Don’t you hear how many charges they testify against you?”


He gave him no answer, not even one word, so the governor marveled greatly.


So he accosted him with many questions, but Jesus gave no response.


Now the passage of the Scripture he was reading was this, “He was led as a sheep to the slaughter. As a lamb is silent before its shearer, so he does not open his mouth.


When he was insulted, he did not retaliate. When he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he committed himself to ʜɪᴍ who judges righteously.
