Whoever doesn’t take up their cross and follow after me isn’t worthy of me.


As they were coming out, they found a man from Cyrene named Simon, and they forced him to carry his cross.


Looking at him, Jesus loved him and said to him, “One thing you lack. Go, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”


They forced someone who was passing by, coming from the country, Simon of Cyrene (the father of Alexander and Rufus) to go with them that he might carry the cross.


He called the crowd to himself with his disciples and said to them, “Whoever wants to follow after me, must deny themselves, and take up their cross, and follow me.


Whoever does not carry their own cross and follow after me cannot be my disciple.


As they led him away, they seized Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and they laid the cross on him to carry it behind Jesus.


He went out, bearing his cross, to the place called “The Place of a Skull” (which in Hebrew is “Golgotha”).


Now he said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”


Jesus said to him, “If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you? You must follow me.”


strengthening the souls of the disciples and encouraging them to continue in the faith, saying, “We must go through many persecutions to enter the Empire of God.”


Now I rejoice in my sufferings for y’all’s sake, and fill up on my part what is lacking of Christ’s oppressions in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church.


so that no one would be shaken by these oppressions. For y’all know that we are destined to this.


Indeed, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.


To this y’all were called, because Christ suffered for y’all, leaving an example, so that y’all would follow his steps.
