The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, one of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin.


Indeed, I will send y’all Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible day of YHWH comes.


and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptizer. He is risen from the dead! That is why miraculous powers are at work in him.”


He said to them, “But who do y’all say that I am?”


His disciples asked him, “Then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”


In those days, John the Baptizer came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,


But others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet or like one of the prophets.”


They told him, “John the Baptizer, and others say Elijah, and still others, one of the prophets.”


and some that Elijah had appeared, and others that one of the ancient prophets had risen again.


They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” He answered, “No.”


There was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others said, “Not so, he leads the multitude astray.”


Then they asked the blind man again, “What do you say about him, because he opened your eyes?” He said, “He is a prophet.”
