He said, “Come with me, and see my zeal for YHWH.” So they made him ride in his chariot.


When y’all spread out y’all’s palms, I will hide my eyes from y’all. When y’all increase y’all’s prayers, I will hear nothing. Y’all’s hands are full of blood.


Will a human being rob God? Yet y’all are robbing me! Then y’all ask, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In tithes and offerings.


For the tithe of the children of Israel, which they offer as a wave offering to YHWH, I have given to the Levites for an inheritance. Therefore I have said to them, ‘Among the children of Israel they will have no inheritance.’”


God met Balaam, and he said to him, “I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered up a bull and a ram on every altar.”


For I tell y’all that unless your* righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, there is no way y’all will enter into the Empire of Heaven.


“Be careful that y’all don’t practice your* acts of righteousness before humans to be seen by them, or else y’all have no reward from your* Father who is in heaven.


“Moreover, when y’all fast, don’t be like the hypocrites with sullen faces. For they disfigure their faces so that humans will notice them fasting. Truly I tell y’all, they have received their reward.


“When y’all pray, y’all are not to be like the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, so that they may be seen by humans. Truly, I tell y’all, they have received their reward.


Then John’s disciples came and asked him, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don’t fast?”


But woe to y’all Pharisees! For y’all tithe mint and rue and every kind of herb, but y’all skip past justice and the love of God. Y’all should have done these things without neglecting the others.


In the same way, when y’all have done all the things that are commanded, y’all should say, ‘We are unworthy servants. We have only done our duty.’”


Where then is the boasting? It is shut out. By what sort of law? Of works? No, rather by a law of faith.


so that no flesh can boast before God.


I advanced in the Jewish religion beyond many of my age among my people, being exceedingly more zealous for my ancestral traditions.


not by works, so that no one can boast.


For bodily exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, holding promise for the present life and the life to come.
