He took for himself a potsherd to scrape himself with, and he sat among the ashes.


The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, the teeth of the young lions, are broken.


For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mixed my drink with tears,


Rise up, YHWH! Save me, my God! For you have struck all of my enemies on the jaw. You have broken the teeth of the wicked.


Break their teeth, God, in their mouth. Break out the great teeth of the young lions, YHWH.


Fraudulent food is sweet to a person, but afterwards their mouth is filled with gravel.


Daughter of my people, clothe yourself with sackcloth, and wallow in ashes! Mourn, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation, for the destroyer will suddenly come on us.


When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he arose from his throne, took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
