They buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the tomb of Kish his father; and they performed all that the king commanded. After that, God answered prayer for the land.


Heleb the son of Baanah the Netophathite, Ittai the son of Ribai of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin,


The king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who spoke to David, saying, “The blind and the lame will keep you out of here,” thinking, “David can’t come in here.”


David said on that day, “Whoever strikes the Jebusites, let him go up to the watercourse and strike those lame and blind, who are hated by David’s soul.” Therefore they say, “The blind and the lame can’t come into the house.”


These were heads of fathers’ households throughout their generations, chief men. These lived in Jerusalem.


They have gone over the pass. They have taken up their lodging at Geba. Ramah trembles. Gibeah of Saul has fled.


“Y’all must flee for safety, children of Benjamin, from the middle of Jerusalem! Y’all are to blow the trumpet in Tekoa and raise up a signal on Beth Haccherem, for disaster looks down from the north with a great destruction.


“Israel, you have sinned from the days of Gibeah. There they remained. The battle against the children of iniquity doesn’t overtake them in Gibeah.


The sons of Benjamin after their families: of Bela, the family of the Belaites; of Ashbel, the family of the Ashbelites; of Ahiram, the family of the Ahiramites;


To the larger group you are to give the more inheritance, and to the smaller you are to give the less inheritance. Each is to be given their inheritance according to those who were counted among them.


Y’all are to inherit the land by lot according to y’all’s families. Larger groups receive a larger inheritance, and smaller receive a smaller inheritance. Wherever the lot falls to any man, that will be his. Y’all will inherit according to the y’all’s ancestral tribes.


As for the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah couldn’t drive them out; but the Jebusites live with the children of Judah at Jerusalem to this day.


The border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom to the side of the Jebusite (also called Jerusalem) southward; and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lies before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the farthest part of the valley of Rephaim northward.

The children of Benjamin didn’t drive out the Jebusites who inhabited Jerusalem, but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.


But the man wouldn’t stay that night, but he rose up and went toward Jebus (also called Jerusalem). he had with him a couple of saddled donkeys and his concubine.


Saul also went to his house in Gibeah; and the army went with him, whose hearts God had touched.
