Whoever sheds human blood, by humans will their blood be shed, for in the image of God God made humankind.


Then they cry to YHWH in their trouble, and ʜᴇ brings them out of their distress.


But our God is in the heavens. Hᴇ does whatever ʜᴇ pleases.


YHWH does whatever ʜᴇ pleases, in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps.


YHWH, in trouble they have visited you. They poured out a prayer when your chastening was on them.


Instead, the men rowed hard to get back to the land. But they could not, for the sea became even stormier against them.


Then the men were overcome with a massive fear of YHWH, and they offered a sacrifice to YHWH and made vows.


The sailors were afraid, and every man cried out to his god. They threw the ship’s cargo into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone below deck, and he was lying down in a deep sleep.


But let them be covered with sackcloth, both people and animals, and let them call out urgently to God. Let them turn away from their evil way and from the violence in their hands.


Yes, Father, for this was well-pleasing in your sight.


When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “This man must be a murderer. Even though he was saved from the sea, yet Justice has not allowed him to live.”
