But God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night, and said to him, “You are about to be a dead man, because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is married to another man.”


When Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her, he took her, lay with her by force.


They said, “Should he deal with our sister as with a prostitute?”


“Indeed as a woman betrays her companion, so y’all betrayed me, house of Israel,” says YHWH.


“‘“Adulterous wife, who takes strangers instead of her husband!


“Therefore, prostitute, hear the word of YHWH:


“‘This is the law of jealousy, when a wife, being under her husband, goes astray, and is defiled,


If a woman divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”


Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”


The woman answered, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You said correctly, ‘I have no husband,’


The woman said to him, “Lord, I discern that you are a prophet.


Therefore, while the husband is alive, she would be called an adulteress if she is joined to another man. But if the husband dies, she is free from the law and is not an adulteress, even though she is joined to another man.


Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.


I have also acquired Ruth the Moabite, the widow of Mahlon, to be my wife in order to raise up the name of the dead on his property, so that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his relatives and from the gate of his hometown. Y’all are witnesses today.”
