In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up, and Jehoiakim became his servant three years. Then he turned and rebelled against him.


In the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and encamped against it; and they built forts against it around it.


Y’all’s country is desolate. Y’all’s cities are burned with fire. Strangers devour y’all’s land in y’all’s presence and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.


In my ears, YHWH Almighty says: “Surely many houses will be desolate, even great and impressives ones, unoccupied.


Then I said, “Lord, how long?” He answered, “Until cities are waste without inhabitant, houses without man, the land becomes utterly waste,


The young lions have roared at him and raised their voices. They have made his land waste. His cities are burned up, without inhabitant.


For YHWH says concerning the house of the king of Judah: “You are Gilead to me, the head of Lebanon. Yet surely I will make you a wilderness, cities which are not inhabited.


I will prepare destroyers against you, everyone with his weapons, and they will cut down your choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.


He has left his covert, as the lion; for their land has become an astonishment because of the fierceness of the oppression, and because of his fierce anger.


I will send and take all the families of the north,” says YHWH, “and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations around. I will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.


Why have you prophesied in the name of YHWH, saying, ‘This house will be like Shiloh, and this city will be desolate, without inhabitant?’” All the people were crowded around Jeremiah in the house of YHWH.


“‘“‘It will happen that I will punish the nation and the kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon,’ says YHWH, ‘with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.


YHWH says: “Y’all say about this place, ‘It is waste, without humans or animals.' Yet in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate, without humans, inhabitants and animals, there will be heard in once more


I will give this command,” says YHWH, “and cause them to return to this city. They will fight against it, take it, and burn it with fire. I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.”


Every city flees for the noise of the horsemen and archers. They go into the thickets and climb up on the rocks. Every city is forsaken, and not a man dwells therein.


“YHWH Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘Y’all have seen all the disaster that I have brought on Jerusalem and on all the cities of Judah. Look, today they are a desolation, and no one lives in them,


“As I live,” says the King, whose name is YHWH Almighty, “surely like Tabor among the mountains, and like Carmel by the sea, so he will come.


“Look, he will come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation; for I will suddenly make them run away from it, and whoever is chosen, I will appoint him over it. For who is like me? Who will appoint me a time? Who is the shepherd who will stand before me?”


Therefore a lion out of the forest will kill them. A wolf of the evenings will destroy them. A leopard will watch against their cities. Everyone who goes out there will be torn in pieces, because their transgressions are many and their backsliding has increased.


“Israel is a hunted sheep. The lions have driven him away. First, the king of Assyria devoured him, and now at last Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones.”


Look, the enemy will come up like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan against the strong habitation; for I will suddenly make them run away from it. Whoever is chosen, I will appoint him over it, for who is like me? Who will appoint me a time? Who is the shepherd who can stand before me?”


The snorting of his horses is heard from Dan. The whole land trembles at the sound of the neighing of his strong ones; for they have come, and have devoured the land and all that is in it, the city and those who dwell therein.”


“I will make Jerusalem heaps, a dwelling place of jackals. I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.”


The inhabited cities will be laid waste, and the land will be a desolation. Then y’all will know that I am YHWH.”’”


I will pour out my indignation on you. I will blow on you with the fire of my wrath. I will deliver you into the hand of brutish men, skillful to destroy.


‘Son of humanity, take up a lamentation over Pharaoh king of Egypt, and tell him, “You were likened to a young lion of the nations; yet you are as a monster in the seas. You broke out with your rivers, and troubled the waters with your feet, and fouled their rivers.”


Because of the greatness that he gave him, all the peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. He killed whom he wanted to, and he kept alive whom he wanted to. He raised up whom he wanted to, and he put down whom he wanted to.


“The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings. I watched until its wings were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth and made to stand on two feet as a man. A man’s heart was given to it.


I will turn y’all’s cities to waste, and will bring y’all’s sanctuaries to desolation. I will not smell the sweet fragrance of y’all’s offerings.


I will scatter y’all among the nations, and I will draw out a sword after y’all. Y’all’s land will become desolate, and y’all’s cities will become waste.
