You will, of yourself, relinquish your inheritance that I gave you. I will cause you to serve your enemies in the land that you don’t know, for y’all have kindled a fire in my anger which will burn forever.”


Whoever remains in this city will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, but whoever goes out and surrenders to the Chaldeans who besiege y’all, they will live and escape with their life.


“‘“‘It will happen that I will punish the nation and the kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon,’ says YHWH, ‘with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.


That same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, Hananiah the son of Azzur, the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spoke to me in the house of YHWH, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,


“YHWH Almighty, the God of Israel, says, ‘I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.


Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “YHWH, the God of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you will go out to the officers of the king of Babylon, then your life will be spared, and this city will not be burned with fire. You and your house will live.


Y’all must not be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom y’all now fear. Don’t be afraid of him,’ says YHWH, ‘for I am with y’all to save and deliver y’all from his hand.
