Then all his brothers, all his sisters, and all those who had been of his acquaintance before, came to him and ate bread with him in his house. They comforted him, and consoled him concerning all the evil that YHWH had brought on him. Everyone also gave him a piece of money, and everyone a ring of gold.


Then I returned and saw all the oppressions that are done under the sun. Look, the tears of those who were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.


Y’all must not weep for the dead. Y’all must not grieve for the king. Rather y’all must weep-weep for the one how has gone away, for he will never return, or see his native country.


Her filthiness was in her skirts. She didn’t remember her latter end. Therefore she has come down astoundingly. She has no comforter. “See, YHWH, my affliction; for the enemy has magnified himself.”


Sigh, but not aloud. Make no mourning for the dead. Bind your headdress on you, and put your sandals on your feet. Don’t cover your lips, and don’t eat mourner’s bread.”


They won’t pour out wine offerings to YHWH, neither will they be pleasing to him. Their sacrifices will be to them like the bread of mourners; all who eat of it will be polluted; for their bread will be for their appetite. It will not come into the house of YHWH.


I have not eaten of it in my mourning, neither have I removed any of it while I was unclean, nor given of it for the dead. I have listened to YHWH my God’s voice. I have done according to all that you have commanded me.
