Nothing will remain but to bow down with the prisoners, and fall among the slain. For all this ʜɪꜱ anger is not turned away, but ʜɪꜱ hand is still stretched out.


Is this y’all’s joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days, whose feet carried her far away to travel?


Thorns and briers will come up on my people’s land; yes, on all the houses of joy in the joyous city.


For the palace will be forsaken. The populous city will be deserted. The hill and the watchtower will be for dens forever, a delight for wild donkeys, a pasture of flocks,


“Therefore YHWH says concerning the king of Assyria, ‘He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there, neither will he come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.


Then the Angel of YHWH went out and struck one hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the camp of the Assyrians. When the people arose early in the morning, there were all dead bodies!


If I go out into the field, I see those slain by the sword! If I enter into the city, I see those who are sick with famine! For both the prophet and the priest go about in the land, and have no knowledge.’”


“YHWH says, ‘Whoever remains in this city will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, but anyone who goes out to the Chaldeans will live. They will escape with their life and will live.’


In the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the famine was so severe in the city, that there was no bread for the people of the land.


How the city sits solitary, that was full of people! She has become as a widow, who was great among the nations! She who was a princess among the provinces has become a slave!


“Look, YHWH, and see to whom you have done thus! Should the women eat their offspring, the children that they held and bounced on their knees? Should the priest and the prophet be killed in the sanctuary of the Lord?


Those who are near and those who are far from you will mock you, you infamous one, full of tumult.


This is the joyous city that lived carelessly, that said in her heart, “I am, and there is no one besides me.” How she has become a desolation, a place for animals to lie down in! Everyone who passes by her will hiss and shake their fists.
