The beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.


When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had struck all the army of Hadadezer,


The king of Assyria listened to him; and the king of Assyria went up against Damascus and took it, and carried its people captive to Kir, and killed Rezin.


The king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, from Cuthah, from Avva, and from Hamath and Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel; and they possessed Samaria and lived in its cities.


Where are the gods of Hamath and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?


Who among all the gods of those nations that my predecessors completely destroyed was able to deliver his people from my hand? Why should y’all’s God be able to deliver y’all from my hand?


After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Neco king of Egypt went up to fight against Carchemish by the Euphrates, and Josiah went out against him.


For he says, “Aren’t all of my commanders kings?


The burden of Damascus. “Look, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it will be a ruinous heap.

Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria from my hand?


Look, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by totally destroying them. Will you be delivered?


Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?’”


For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin. Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be broken in pieces, so that it will not be a people.

Yes, they scoff at kings, and princes are a derision to them. They laugh at every stronghold, for they build up an earthen ramp and take it.


From Mount Hor y’all are to draw a line to the entrance of Hamath, and the border will pass by Zedad.
