Even in the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha killed him and reigned in his place.


When Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into the fortified part of the king’s house and burned the king’s house over him with fire, and died,


But the people who followed Omri prevailed against the people who followed Tibni the son of Ginath; so Tibni died, and Omri reigned.


He said, “Y’all must take them alive!” They took them alive, and killed them at the pit of the shearing house, even forty-two men. He didn’t leave any of them.


When the letter came to them, they took the king’s sons and killed them, even seventy people, and put their heads in baskets, and sent them to him to Jezreel.


Shallum the son of Jabesh conspired against him, and struck him before the people and killed him, and reigned in his place.


Menahem the son of Gadi went up from Tirzah, came to Samaria, struck Shallum the son of Jabesh in Samaria, killed him, and reigned in his place.


Pekah the son of Remaliah, his captain, conspired against him and attacked him in Samaria, in the fortress of the king’s house, with Argob and Arieh; and with him were fifty men of the Gileadites. He killed him, and reigned in his place.


Hoshea the son of Elah made a conspiracy against Pekah the son of Remaliah, attacked him, killed him, and reigned in his place, in the twentieth year of Jotham the son of Uzziah.


Jehu drew his bow with his full strength, and struck Joram between his arms; and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot.


He said, “Y’all throw her down!” So they threw her down, and some of her blood was splattered against the wall and on the horses. Then he trampled her under foot.


“But those who are godless in heart lay up anger. They don’t cry for help when he binds them.


Do all these evildoers know nothing? Those who eat up my people like they eat bread, and never call on YHWH?


Yet you have not called on me, Jacob; but you have been weary of me, Israel.


Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen a God besides you, who works on behalf of the one who waits for ʜɪᴍ.


For we have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteousness is like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.


There is no one who calls on your name, who stirs himself up to take hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us, and have consumed us by means of our iniquities.


Yet the people have not turned to him who struck them, neither have they sought YHWH Almighty.


“I sought for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I would not destroy it; but I found no one.


As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil has come on us. Yet we have not entreated the favor of YHWH our God, that we should turn from our iniquities and have discernment in your truth.


Where is your king now, that he may save you in all your cities? And your judges, of whom you said, ‘Give me a king and princes’?


I will go and return to my place, until they acknowledge their offense, and seek my face. In their affliction they will seek me earnestly.”


The pride of Israel testifies to his face; yet they haven’t returned to YHWH their God, nor sought him, for all this.


They haven’t cried to me with their heart, but they howl on their beds. They assemble themselves for grain and new wine. They turn away from me.


They have set up kings, but not by me. They have made princes, and I didn’t approve. Of their silver and their gold they have made themselves idols, that they may be cut off.


Woe to those who devise iniquity and work evil on their beds! When the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand.
