All Israel buried him and mourned for him, according to the word of YHWH, which he spoke by his servant Ahijah the prophet.

Now in the second year of their coming to God’s house at Jerusalem, in the second month, Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brothers the priests and the Levites, and all those who had come out of the captivity to Jerusalem, began the work and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to have the oversight of the work of the house of YHWH.


they approached Zerubbabel and the head fathers, and said to them, “Let us build with y’all, for we seek y’all’s God, and we have been sacrificing to ʜɪᴍ since the days of Esar Haddon king of Assyria, who brought us up here.”


Then work stopped on God’s house which is at Jerusalem. It stopped until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.


Now the prophets, Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem. They prophesied to them in the name of the God of Israel.


At the same time Tattenai, the governor beyond the River, came to them, with Shetharbozenai and their companions, and asked them, “Who gave y’all the decree to build this house and to finish this wall?”


The elders of the Jews built and prospered, through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. They built and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the decree of Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.


Now these are the priests and the Levites who went up with Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua: Seraiah, Jeremiah, Ezra,


Jeshua became the father of Joiakim, and Joiakim became the father of Eliashib, and Eliashib became the father of Joiada,


Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even to the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brothers have not eaten the bread of the governor.

Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed YHWH their God’s voice, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as YHWH their God had sent him; and the people feared YHWH.


YHWH stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of YHWH Almighty, their God,


in the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.


“This is what YHWH of Armies says: These people say, ‘The time has not yet come, the time to rebuild the house of YHWH.’”


Then the word of YHWH came by Haggai the prophet, saying,

The word of YHWH came the second time to Haggai in the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying,


“Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, ‘I will shake the heavens and the earth.


But now you be strong, Zerubbabel,’ says YHWH. ‘Be strong, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all people of the land,’ says YHWH. ‘Y’all must work, for I am with y’all,’ says YHWH Almighty.


In the eighth month of the second year of Darius, the word of YHWH came to the prophet Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, saying,


He showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of YHWH, and Satan standing at his right hand to be his adversary.


When y’all offer blind animals for sacrifice, isn’t that evil? And when y’all offer lame and sick animals, isn’t that evil? Try offering that to your governor! Will he be pleased with you or show you favor?” says YHWH Almighty.
