Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him. Esau said in his heart, “The days of mourning for my father are at hand. Then I will kill my brother Jacob.”


Joseph fell on his father’s face, wept on him, and kissed him.


So Joseph died, being one hundred ten years old, and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.


They buried him in his own tomb, which he had dug out for himself in David’s city, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odors and various kinds of spices prepared by the perfumers’ art; and they made a very great fire for him.


When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.


She has done what she could. She has anointed my body beforehand for the burial.


When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might come and anoint him.


On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women came to the tomb, bringing the spices they had prepared.


But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. She has kept this for the day of my burial.
