They sat down to eat bread, and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites was coming from Gilead, with their camels bearing spices and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.

So the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin also. They got up, went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.


They prepared the present for Joseph’s coming at noon, for they heard that they should eat bread there.

The kings of Tarshish and of the islands bring tribute. The kings of Sheba and Seba offer gifts.


Y’all are to make vows to YHWH your* God, and fulfill them! Let all who are around ʜɪᴍ bring tribute to the one who is to be feared.


I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and large land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.


A person without understanding shakes hands in pledge, and becomes collateral in the presence of a neighbor.


A person’s gift enlarges possibilities for them, and brings them before the great.


Many will entreat the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to the one who gives gifts.


A gift in secret pacifies anger, and a bribe in the cloak, strong wrath.


How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine, the fragrance of your perfume than any spice!


nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with every kind of incense tree; myrrh and aloes, with all the finest spices.


Come away, my beloved! Be like a gazelle or a young stag on the mountains of spices!


Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then isn’t the health of the daughter of my people recovered?


“‘“The men of Dedan traded with you. Many islands were the market of your hand. They brought you horns of ivory and ebony in exchange.


“‘“Judah and the land of Israel were your traders. They traded wheat of Minnith, confections, honey, oil, and balm for your merchandise.


“‘“The traders of Sheba and Raamah were your traders. They traded for your wares with the best of all spices, all precious stones, and gold.


But I have said to y’all, “Y’all will inherit their land, and I will give it to y’all to possess it, a land flowing with milk and honey.” I am YHWH y’all’s God, who has set y’all apart from the peoples.
