Abram and Nahor married wives. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, who was also the father of Iscah.


When Abram came to Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful.


Abraham said about Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.


Didn’t he tell me, ‘She is my sister’? She, even she herself, said, ‘He is my brother.’ I have done this in the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands.”


The men of the place asked him about his wife. He said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “My wife”, lest, he thought, “the men of the place might kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to look at.”


“Whom have you dreaded and feared, so that you lie, and have not remembered me, nor laid it to your heart? Haven’t I held my peace for a long time, and you don’t fear me?


Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “YHWH, the God of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you will go out to the officers of the king of Babylon, then your life will be spared, and this city will not be burned with fire. You and your house will live.


But Jeremiah said, “They won’t hand you over. Please obey YHWH’s voice, what I am saying to you, so it will be well with you, and your life be spared.


Look, every soul is mine; the soul of the father is like the soul of the son, they belong to me. The soul who sins will die.


Y’all are of your* father the devil, and y’all want to do what your* father desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn’t stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own, for he is a liar, and the father of lies.


For the payment for sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.


Because of these, the wrath of God is coming on the children of disobedience.
