3 But Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the rest of the head fathers of Israel said to them, “Y’all won’t have any part with us in building a house to our God, because we are united in building to YHWH, the God of Israel, as King Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us.”

Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that word of YHWH by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, YHWH stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

“Cyrus king of Persia says, ‘YHWH, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and has commanded me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah.


Any of ʜɪꜱ people among y’all, may their God be with them, and let them go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of YHWH, the God of Israel. Hᴇ is the God who is in Jerusalem.


Now in the second year of their coming to God’s house at Jerusalem, in the second month, Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brothers the priests and the Levites, and all those who had come out of the captivity to Jerusalem, began the work and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to have the oversight of the work of the house of YHWH.


Then I answered them, and said to them, “The God of heaven make us prosperous. Therefore we, ʜɪꜱ servants, will arise and build, but y’all have no portion, right, or memorial in Jerusalem.”


who says of Cyrus, ‘He is my shepherd, and will fulfill all my desire,’ even saying of Jerusalem, ‘Let it be rebuilt;’ and of the temple, ‘Your foundation will be laid.’”


For Jacob my servant’s sake, and Israel my chosen, I have called you by your name. I have given you a title, though you have not known me.


“Look, I am sending y’all out as sheep among wolves. Therefore, y’all must be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.


So the Samaritan woman said to him, “How can you, a Jew, ask me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)


You have no part or share in this matter, for your heart is not straight before God.
