For they also built for themselves high places, sacred pillars, and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.

All the people of the land went to the house of Baal, and broke it down. They broke his altars and his images in pieces thoroughly, and killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. The priest appointed officers over the house of YHWH.


He sacrificed and burned incense in the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.


The king defiled the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mountain of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon.


For they provoked ʜɪᴍ to anger with their high places, and moved ʜɪᴍ to jealousy with their engraved images.

They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains, and burn incense on the hills, under oaks, poplars, and terebinths, because their shade is good. Therefore y’all’s daughters have become prostitutes, and y’all’s brides commit adultery.


In the morning, Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal; and he saw from there part of the people.


Instead this is what y’all are to do with them: y’all must break down their altars, dash their pillars into pieces, cut down their Asherah poles, and y’all must burn their idols with fire.


Y’all must not make a covenant with the inhabitants of this land. Y’all must break down their altars.’ But y’all have not listened to my voice. Why have y’all done this?
