to fulfill the word of YHWH by Jeremiah’s mouth, until the land had enjoyed its Sabbaths. As long as it lay desolate, it kept Sabbath, to fulfill seventy years.


Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that word of YHWH by Jeremiah’s mouth might be accomplished, YHWH stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,


Indeed your statutes are my delight, and my counselors. DALETH


Your holy cities have become a wilderness. Zion has become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.


The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, one of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin.


Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, with its kings and its officials, to make them a desolation, an horror, a hissing, and a curse, as it is today;


“Micah the Morashtite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah; and he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying, ‘YHWH Almighty says: “‘Zion will be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem will become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.’


then I will make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.’”


All the nations will serve him, his son, and his son’s son, until the time of his own land comes. Then many nations and great kings will make him their bondservant.


For YHWH says, “After seventy years are accomplished for Babylon, I will visit y’all and fulfill my good word toward y’all, to return y’all to this place.


Then I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, for the land will become a waste.”


How the city sits solitary, that was full of people! She has become as a widow, who was great among the nations! She who was a princess among the provinces has become a slave!


No foot of man will pass through it, nor will any animal foot pass through it. It won’t be inhabited for forty years.


I set my face to the Lord God, to seek by prayer and petitions, with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.


Therefore because of y’all, Zion will be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem will become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the temple like the high places of a forest.


Then the Angel of YHWH replied, “O YHWH Almighty, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which you have had indignation these seventy years?”


“You are to speak to all the people of the land and to the priests, saying, ‘When y’all fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh month for these seventy years, did y’all really fast and fast for me?


“Therefore, when you see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),


“But when you see ‘the abomination of desolation,’ standing where it should not be, (let the reader understand) then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.


The eunuch answered Philip, “Please tell me, who is the prophet talking about— himself or someone else?”


Until I come, give attention to the public reading of scripture, to exhortation, and to teaching.


Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear and keep the things written in it, because the time is near.
