The womb will forget him. The worm will feed sweetly on him. He will be no more remembered. Unrighteousness will be broken as a tree.


‘I have made the earth, the humans, and the animals that are on the surface of the earth by my great power and by my outstretched arm. I give it to whom it seems right to me.


“Y’all must flee from Babylon! Y’all must escape with your own life! Don’t let yourself* be killed for her iniquity, because it is the time of YHWH’s vengeance. Hᴇ will repay her what she deserves.


“We would have healed Babylon, but she cannot be healed. Y’all must forsake her, and each go to his own land; for her judgment reaches to heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.


“Therefore thus said Lord YHWH: ‘Because he is exalted in stature, and he has set his top among the thick branches, and his heart is lifted up in his height,


Hᴇ changes the times and the seasons. Hᴇ removes kings and sets up kings. Hᴇ gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have understanding.


Then the herald cried aloud, “To y’all it is commanded, peoples, nations, and languages,


Its leaves were beautiful, and it had much fruit, and in it was food for all. The animals of the field had shade under it, and the birds of the sky lived in its branches, and all flesh was fed from it.


“Whereas the king saw a holy watcher coming down from the sky and saying, ‘Y’all must cut down the tree and destroy it. But y’all are to leave the stump of its roots in the earth, bound with iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field, and let it be damp with the dew of the sky. Let his portion be with the animals of the field, until seven times pass over him.’


At the end of twelve months he was walking in the royal palace of Babylon.


But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.


He was driven from the sons of men, and his heart was made like the animals’, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. He was fed with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the sky, until he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and that he sets up over it whomever he will.


Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that doesn’t produce beautiful fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

He cried with a mighty sound, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison of every unclean spirit, and a prison of every unclean bird and detestable beast!
