He bought the hill Samaria of Shemer for two talents of silver; and he built on the hill, and called the name of the city which he built, Samaria, after the name of Shemer, the owner of the hill.


For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor. He has violently taken away a house, and he will not build it up.


They turn the needy out of the way. The poor of the earth all hide themselves.


“Because of the oppression of the weak and the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says YHWH. “I will provide the safety they desire.”


I know that YHWH will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and justice for the needy.


Many bulls have surrounded me. Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.


The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender.


Then I returned and saw all the oppressions that are done under the sun. Look, the tears of those who were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.


If you see the oppression of the poor, and the violent taking away of justice and righteousness in a district, don’t marvel at the matter, for one official is eyed by a higher one, and there are officials over them.


Woe to the crown of pride of the drunkards of Ephraim, and to the fading flower of his glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fertile valley of those who are overcome with wine!


Woe to those who add house to house, and join field to field, until there is no more room, so that y’all dwell alone in the middle of the land!


“Y’all come,” they say, “I will get wine, and we will fill ourselves with beer; and tomorrow will be as today, great beyond measure.”


“Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to release the chains of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that y’all break every yoke?


“Because you are glad, because you rejoice, O you who plunder my heritage, because you are wanton as a heifer that treads out the grain, and neigh as strong horses,


Y’all are to kill all her bulls. Let them go down to the slaughter. Woe to them! For their day has come, the time of their visitation.


“Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me. He has crushed me. He has made me an empty vessel. He has swallowed me up like a sea monster. He has filled his belly with my delicacies. and then spewed me out.


For YHWH Almighty said, “Y’all must cut down trees and build siege ramps against Jerusalem. This is the city to be visited. She is filled with oppression within herself.


if y’all don’t oppress the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, and don’t shed innocent blood in this place, and y’all don’t walk after other gods to your* own disaster,


has wronged the poor and needy, has taken by robbery, has not restored the pledge, and has lifted up his eyes to the idols, has committed abomination,


In you have they taken bribes to shed blood. You have taken interest and increase, and you have greedily gained of your neighbors by oppression, and have forgotten me,” says Lord YHWH.


Her princes within it are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood and to destroy souls, that they may get dishonest gain.


The people of the land have used oppression and exercised robbery. Yes, they have troubled the poor and needy, and have oppressed the foreigner wrongfully.


In you have they treated father and mother with contempt. Among you they have oppressed the foreigner. In you they have wronged the fatherless and the widow.


“I will seek that which was lost, and will bring back that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick; but I will destroy the fat and the strong. I will feed them in justice.”’


Y’all will eat the flesh of the mighty and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bulls, all of them fatlings of Bashan.


and have cast lots for my people, and have given a boy for a prostitute, and sold a girl for wine, that they may drink.


Y’all must listen this word that YHWH has spoken against y’all, children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt, saying:


Do two walk together, unless they have agreed?


Therefore, because y’all trample on the poor and take a wheat tax, though y’all have built houses of cut stone, y’all will never dwell in them. Y’all have planted pleasant vineyards, but y’all will not drink their wine.


Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who are secure on the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come!


who drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the best oils, but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.


I will come near to y’all for judgment. I will be a swift witness against sorcerers, adulterers, perjurers, and those who exploit laborers, widows, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and don’t fear me,” says YHWH Almighty.


They turned and went up by the way of Bashan. Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.


You must not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the foreigners who are in your land within your gates.


A nation that you don’t know will eat the fruit of your ground and all of your work. You will only be oppressed and crushed always,
