But just as Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If indeed this was a matter of wrongdoing or an actual crime, it would be reasonable for me to listen to y’all Jews.


When I was informed that there was a plot against the man, I sent him to you immediately, ordering that his accusers state their case against him before you. Farewell.”

“I answered them that it is not the custom of the Romans to hand over a human before the accused has met the accusers face to face and had opportunity to make a defense against the charges.


I found that he had done nothing worthy of death, but because he appealed to the Emperor, I decided to send him.


However Festus answered that Paul was to be kept in Caesarea, and that he himself intended to go there shortly.


After spending eight or ten days with them, Festus went down to Caesarea. The next day he took his seat on the tribunal and ordered Paul to be brought in.
