When daylight came, the council of the elders of the people, the chief priests, and scribes gathered together, and they led him away to their council, saying,


In those days, Peter stood up among the siblings (a gathering of about one hundred twenty people), and said,


“Siblings, children of Abraham’s family, and those among y’all who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to y’all.


“Siblings, it is right for me to speak confidently to y’all about the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.


“Brothers and fathers, listen now to my defense before y’all.”


Paul, looking straight at the council and said, “Brothers, I have lived all my life before God with good conscience to this day.”


But when Paul noticed that some of them were Sadducees and others were Pharisees, he called out in the Council, “Brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. I am being judged because of the hope and resurrection of the dead!”


And I did this in Jerusalem: after receiving authority from the chief priests, I locked up many of the saints in prisons, and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them.


In all the synagogues, I regularly punished them and tried to make them blaspheme. I was so enraged against them that I went to persecute them in foreign cities.


“Then, while I was traveling to Damascus on the authority and commission from the chief priests,


After three days had passed, Paul called together the leaders of the Jews. When they had assembled, he said to them, “Brothers, although I had done nothing against our people or the customs of our ancestors, I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.


Then they said to him, “We haven’t received any letters about you from Judea, nor have any of the sibling come to report or say anything bad about you.


“Now, siblings, I know that y’all acted in ignorance, just as y’all’s leaders did.


The next day, their rulers, elders, and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem.


Hearing this, they entered the temple at daybreak and began teaching. Now when the high priest and those who were with him arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin—the entire high council of the sons of Israel—and they sent orders to the prison to have them brought.


And he has authority here from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.”


For y’all have heard of my way of living in time past in the Jewish religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.


regarding zeal, persecuting the assembly; regarding the righteousness that is in the law, found blameless.


Don’t neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy when the elders laid hands on you.
