17 The God of this people Israel chose our ancestors. Hᴇ made them prosper during their stay as foreigners in the land of Egypt, and ʜᴇ led them out of it and with an uplifted arm.

For YHWH has chosen Jacob for ʜɪᴍꜱᴇʟꜰ, Israel for ʜɪꜱ own possession.


That same day, YHWH brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies.


When your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is this?’ that you are to tell him, ‘By strength of hand YHWH brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage.


It will be for a sign on your hand and a symbol between your eyes, for by strength of hand YHWH brought us out of Egypt.”


YHWH hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the children of Israel; for the children of Israel went out with a high hand.


Now I know that YHWH is greater than all other gods because of the way that they treated people arrogantly.”


Yet listen now, Jacob my servant, and Israel, whom I have chosen.


Also I brought y’all up out of the land of Egypt and led y’all forty years in the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite.


For I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage. I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.


Your ancestors went down into Egypt with seventy persons, and now YHWH your God has made you as the stars of the sky for multitude.


For you are a holy people to YHWH your God, and YHWH has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth.


But YHWH has selected y’all, and brought y’all out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be a people of ʜɪꜱ inheritance, as it is today.


Or has God tried to go and take a nation for ʜɪᴍꜱᴇʟꜰ from among another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, by war, by a mighty hand, by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, as YHWH y’all’s God did for y’all in Egypt before your eyes?


Because he loved your fathers, therefore he chose their offspring after them, and brought you out with his presence, with his great power, out of Egypt;


the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, by which YHWH your God brought you out. So YHWH your God will do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.


Not because of your righteousness or because of the uprightness of your heart will you go in to possess their land. Instead it is because of the wickedness of these nations that YHWH your God drive them out from before you, and so that ʜᴇ might establish the word which YHWH swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.


But y’all are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy ethnic group, a people of God’s own possession, that y’all may proclaim the virtues of ʜɪᴍ who called y’all out of darkness into ʜɪꜱ marvelous light.


Woe to us! Who will deliver us out of the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods that struck the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the wilderness.
