They mourned, wept, and fasted until evening for Saul and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of YHWH, and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.


The elders of his house arose beside him, to raise him up from the earth; but he would not, and he didn’t eat bread with them.


Your hands weren’t bound, and your feet weren’t put into fetters. As a man falls before the children of iniquity, so you fell.” All the people wept again over him.


All the people took notice of it, and it pleased them, as whatever the king did pleased all the people.


God do so to Abner, and more also, if I don’t do for David as YHWH has sworn to him:


all the valiant men arose and took away the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.


No one will break bread for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead. No one will give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.


Sigh, but not aloud. Make no mourning for the dead. Bind your headdress on you, and put your sandals on your feet. Don’t cover your lips, and don’t eat mourner’s bread.”


Y’all will do as I have done. Y’all won’t cover your* lips or eat mourner’s bread.


The children of Israel went up and wept before YHWH until evening, and they asked of YHWH, saying, “Should we go up again in battle against the sons of Benjamin our brothers?” YHWH said, “Y’all must go up against them.”


Then all the children of Israel and all the people went up, and came to Bethel, and wept, and sat there before YHWH, and fasted that day until evening; then they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before YHWH.


Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May YHWH deal with me severely if anything but death parts you and me.”


He said, “What is the thing that he has spoken to you? Please don’t hide it from me. God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that he spoke to you.”
