When Joab had come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner. They brought him back from the well of Sirah, but David didn’t know it.


Afterward, when David heard about this, he said, “I and my kingdom are guiltless before YHWH forever of the blood of Abner the son of Ner.


When Saul’s son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands became weak, and all the Israelites were troubled.


YHWH will return his blood on his own head, because he fell on two men more righteous and better than he, and killed them with the sword, and my father David didn’t know it: Abner the son of Ner, captain of the army of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the army of Judah.
