So YHWH sent a pestilence on Israel from the morning even to the appointed time, and seventy thousand men died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba.

Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army, Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder,


David said to Joab and to the princes of the people, “Y’all go and count Israel from Beersheba even to Dan. Then y’all are to bring me a report so that I may know how many there are.”


However, concerning the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him to test him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

This is what YHWH says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in humankind, who relies on strength of mere flesh, and whose heart turns away from YHWH.


and because of the immeasurable greatness of the revelations. Therefore, so that I would not exalt myself, I was given a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me, that I would not exalt myself.


Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, to YHWH at Mizpah.
