43 The men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, “We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more claim to David than you. He bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as one man, so that they sent to the king, saying, “Return, you and all your servants.”


All the people were arguing throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, “The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines. But now he has fled from the land from Absalom.


There happened to be there a wicked fellow, whose name was Sheba the son of Bichri, a Benjamite. He blew the trumpet, and said, “We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to his tents, Israel!”


David said to Abishai, “Now Sheba the son of Bichri will do us more harm than Absalom did. Take your lord’s servants and pursue after him, lest he get himself fortified cities, and escape out of our sight.”


Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, “Look, we are your bone and your flesh.


When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion have we in David? We don’t have an inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So Israel departed to their tents.


Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is with people who take advice.


A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.


The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam, therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.


A brother offended is more difficult than a fortified city. Disputes are like the bars of a fortress.


Don’t be conquered by evil, but conquer evil with good.


But if y’all bite and devour one another, be careful that y’all don’t destroy one another.


idolatry, magic drugs, hatred, infighting, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, dissensions, factions,


Let’s not become conceited, provoking one another or envying one another.


Y’all must not act out of selfishness or vanity, but in humility, put others ahead of yourselves*,


because human anger doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.


The men of Ephraim said to him, “Why have you treated us this way? Why didn’t you call us when you went to fight with Midian?” They rebuked him sharply.


Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech,
