but if you return to the city, and tell Absalom, ‘I will be your servant, O king. As I have been your father’s servant in time past, so I will now be your servant; then will you defeat for me the counsel of Ahithophel.’


Look, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz, Zadok’s son, and Jonathan, Abiathar’s son. Y’all must send to me everything that y’all hear from them.”


Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying by En Rogel, and a female servant used to go and report to them, and they went and told King David. They couldn’t risk being seen coming into the city.


Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, “Let me now run and carry the king news, how YHWH has avenged him of his enemies.”


When David rose up in the morning, the word of YHWH came to the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying,


While he was still speaking, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest arrived. Then Adonijah said, “Come in. You are a worthy man, and must be bringing good news.”


Ahimaaz, in Naphtali (he also took Basemath the daughter of Solomon as wife);


All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.


Ahitub became the father of Zadok. Zadok became the father of Ahimaaz.


The servant said to him, “Look, there is a man of God in this city, and he is a man who is held in honor. All that he says happens-happens. Let’s go there now. Perhaps he can tell us which way to go.”


(In earlier times in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, he said, “Y’all come! Let’s go to the seer,” because the a prophet of today was formerly called a seer.)
