When Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her, he took her, lay with her by force.


The sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it. The men were grieved, and they were very angry, because he had done folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter, a thing that ought not to be done.


I saw among the simple ones. I discerned among the youths a young man lacking sense,


For they have done foolish things in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives, and have spoken words in my name falsely, which I did not command them. I am ʜᴇ who knows. I am witness to it,” says YHWH.


“‘You must not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife’s daughter, conceived by your father, since she is your sister.


“‘You must not uncover the nakedness of your sister, the daughter of your father, or the daughter of your mother, whether born at home or born abroad.


“‘If a man takes his sister—his father’s daughter, or his mother’s daughter—and sees her nakedness, and she sees his nakedness, it is a shameful thing. They will be cut off in the sight of the children of their people. He has uncovered his sister’s nakedness. He will bear his iniquity.


then they must bring the young lady to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city are to stone her to death with stones, because she has done folly in Israel and played the prostitute in her father’s house. So you must purge the evil from among you.


then the man who lay with her must give to the young woman’s father fifty shekels of silver. She will become his wife, because he violated her. He may not divorce her all of his days.


The man, the master of the house, went out to them, and said to them, “No, my brothers. Y’all must not be this evil. After all, this man has come into my house, so y’all must not do this senseless act.


I took my concubine and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel; for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel.
