Absalom said moreover, “Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man who has any suit or cause might come to me, and I would do him justice!”

Moreover you should select from all the people able men who fear God, men of truth who hate unjust gain. Appoint them as rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

Your rulers are rebellious and companions of thieves. Everyone loves bribes and follows after rewards. They don’t defend the fatherless, neither does the cause of the widow come to them.


He who walks righteously and speaks blamelessly, he who despises the gain of oppressions, who gestures with his hands, refusing to take a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed, and shuts his eyes from looking at evil—


Her leaders judge for bribes, and her priests teach for a price, and her prophets of it tell fortunes for money; yet they lean on YHWH, and say, “Isn’t YHWH among us? No disaster will come on us.”


You must not pervert justice. You must not show partiality. You must not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves with many sorrows.


Now, here is the king walking before y’all. I am old and gray and my sons are with y’all. I have walked before y’all from my youth to this day.


I will raise up a faithful priest for myself who will do according to that which is in my heart and in my mind. I will build him a sure house. He will walk before my anointed forever.
