After this, Absalom prepared a chariot and horses for himself, and fifty men to run before him.


Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will be king.” So he prepared chariots, horsemen, and fifty men to run ahead of him.


Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen. He had one thousand four hundred chariots and twelve thousand horsemen. He kept them in the chariot cities and with the king at Jerusalem.


The young men who had grown up with him said to him, “Tell these people who spoke to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter to us’— tell them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.


“Your father made our yoke difficult. Now therefore make the hard service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.”


King Rehoboam made shields of bronze in their place, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who kept the door of the king’s house.

Saul said to his servants who stood around him, “Listen, y’all Benjamites! Will the son of Jesse give every one of y’all fields and vineyards? Will he make all y’all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds?


Now therefore, listen to their voice. However, you must warn-warn them and show them the way of the king who will reign over them.”
