They took Absalom and cast him into a great pit in the forest, and raised over him a very great heap of stones. Then all Israel fled, each to his own tent.


The people of Israel were struck there before David’s servants, and there was a great slaughter there that day of twenty thousand men.


Then the king arose and sat in the gate. The people were all told, “Look, the king is sitting in the gate.” All the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his tent.


There happened to be there a wicked fellow, whose name was Sheba the son of Bichri, a Benjamite. He blew the trumpet, and said, “We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to his tents, Israel!”


When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion have we in David? We don’t have an inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So Israel departed to their tents.


A cry went throughout the army about the going down of the sun, saying, “Every man to his city, and every man to his country!”


Judah was defeated by Israel; and each man fled to his tent.

YHWH will cause you to be struck before your enemies. You will go out one way against them, and will flee seven ways before them. You will be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth.


YHWH said to Samuel, “Look! I am about do a thing in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears it tingle.


The Philistines put themselves in array against Israel. When they joined battle, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand men of the army in the field.
