8 Then Abishai said to David, “God has delivered up your enemy into your hand today. Now therefore please let me strike him with the spear to the earth at one stroke, and I will not strike him the second time.”

Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Please let me go over and take off his head.”


You have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy. You have set my feet in a large place.


Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, “Please let me go, and I will kill Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man will know it. Why should he take your life, that all the Jews who are gathered to you should be scattered, and the remnant of Judah perish?”


Whatever y’all plot against YHWH, ʜᴇ will make a full end. Affliction won’t rise up the second time.


For God has bound everyone to disobedience, so that ʜᴇ might have mercy on all.


How could one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, and YHWH had delivered them up?


YHWH gave them rest all around, according to all that he swore to their fathers. Not a man of all their enemies stood before them. YHWH delivered all their enemies into their hand.


Judah went up, and YHWH delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand. They struck ten thousand men in Bezek.


David stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds, and remained in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but God didn’t deliver him into his hand.


David’s men said to him, “Look, this is the day about which YHWH said to you, ‘I will deliver your enemy into your hand, and you will do to him as it seems good to you.’” Then David arose and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe secretly.


Afterward, David’s heart struck him because he had cut off Saul’s skirt.


YHWH will render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; because YHWH delivered you into my hand today, and I wouldn’t stretch out my hand against YHWH’s anointed.


So David and Abishai came to the people by night. And there was Saul laying asleep within the place of the wagons, with his spear stuck in the ground at his head. Abner and the people were lying around him.


David said to Abishai, “Don’t destroy him, for who can stretch out his hand against YHWH’s anointed, and be guiltless?”
