To Abiathar the priest the king said, “Go to Anathoth, to your own fields, for you are worthy of death. But I will not at this time put you to death, because you bore the Lord the ark of YHWH before David my father, and because you were afflicted in all in which my father was afflicted.”


‘Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great and difficult things, which you don’t know.’


For the children of Israel will live many days without king, without prince, without sacrifice, without sacred stone, and without ephod or idols.


He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before YHWH. At his command they and all the children of Israel, the entire community, will go out and come in.”

but Saul learned of their plot. They were watching the gates day and night so that they could kill him,


Therefore they asked of YHWH further, “Has the man come here yet?” YHWH answered, “There he is, he has hidden himself among the supplies.”


Saul said to Ahijah, “Bring the ark of God here.” For the ark of God was with the children of Israel at that time.


One of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped and fled after David.


Then David said, “O YHWH, the God of Israel, your servant has heard-heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah to destroy the city for my sake.


When Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, he came down with an ephod in his hand.


Saul summoned all the people to war, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men.


David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” Abiathar brought the ephod to David.
