Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion. This is David’s city.


David lived in the stronghold, and called it David’s city. David built around from Millo and inward.


When your days are fulfilled and you sleep with your fathers, I will set up your offspring after you, who will proceed out of your body, and I will establish his kingdom.


Otherwise it will happen, when my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be considered criminals.”


When Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the captain of the army was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, “Let me depart, that I may go to my own country.”


Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in his father David’s city; and Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.

Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel with all the heads of the tribes, the princes of the fathers’ households of the children of Israel, to King Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of YHWH’s covenant out of David’s city, which is Zion.


They brought him on horses, and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in David’s city.


Jotham slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in his father David’s city; and Ahaz his son reigned in his place.

Solomon slept with his fathers, and he was buried in his father David’s city; and Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.


When David had served the purpose of God in his own generation, he fell asleep, was laid with his fathers, and experienced decay.


“Siblings, it is right for me to speak confidently to y’all about the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
