Elijah the Tishbite, who was one of the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As YHWH, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there will not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.”


She went and did according to the saying of Elijah; and she, he, and her household ate many days.


After a while, the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.


Elijah went to show himself to Ahab. The famine was severe in Samaria.


then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of your servants, and of your people Israel, when you teach them the good way in which they should walk; and send rain on your land which you have given to your people for an inheritance.


I will lay it a wasteland. It won’t be pruned or hoed, but it will grow briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it.”


When ʜᴇ utters ʜɪꜱ voice, the waters in the heavens roar, and ʜᴇ causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth. Hᴇ makes lightnings for the rain, and brings the wind out of ʜɪꜱ treasuries.


Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the sky give showers? Aren’t you he, YHWH our God? Therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.


“Y’all be glad then, children of Zion, and y’all rejoice in YHWH, your* God; for ʜᴇ gives you the early rain in just measure, and ʜᴇ causes the rain to come down for y’all, the early rain and the latter rain, as before.


then I will give y’all rains in their season, and the land will give its produce, and the trees of the field will give their fruit.


“I also have withheld the rain from y’all, when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I caused it to rain on one city, and caused it not to rain on another city. One field was rained on, and the field where it didn’t rain withered.


But in truth, I tell y’all that there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut for three and half years and there was a great famine came over all the land.


YHWH will open for you ʜɪꜱ good treasure in the heavens, to give the rain on your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow.


Elijah was a human like us. He prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it didn’t rain on the earth for three years and six months.


Exclude the court outside of the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the ethnic groups. They will trample on the holy city for forty-two months.


They have the power to shut up the sky, so that rain will not fall during the days of their prophecy. They hold power over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every plague as often as they want.
