When the king heard the message that man of God cried against the altar in Bethel, Jeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, “Y’all seize him!” But the hand that he stretched out against him dried up, so that he could not pull it back again to himself.


Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “What will be the sign that YHWH will heal me, and that I will go up to the house of YHWH the third day?”


Moses answered, “But, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice, for they will say, ‘YHWH has not appeared to you.’”


Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, as YHWH had commanded. Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.


Hezekiah also had said, “What is the sign that I will go up to the house of YHWH?”


“‘This will be the sign to y’all,’ says YHWH, ‘that I will punish y’all in this place, so that y’all will know that my words of disaster will rise-rise against y’all.’


The Jews then said to him, “What sign can you show us, since you are doing these things?”


For Jews demand signs, Greeks seek wisdom,


He said to him, “If now I have found favor in your sight, then show me a sign that it is you who talk with me.


This will be the sign to you that will come on your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they will both die.
