On the third day, a man came out of the camp from Saul, with his clothes torn and earth on his head. When he came to David, he fell to the earth and showed respect.


The king said, “Let him return to his own house, but let him not see my face.” So Absalom returned to his own house, and didn’t see the king’s face.


Absalom lived two full years in Jerusalem, and he didn’t see the king’s face.


So Joab came to the king and told him this. Then he had called for Absalom, and he came to the king and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king. Then the king kissed Absalom.


Bathsheba bowed and showed respect to the king. The king said, “What do you want?”


Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth and showed respect to the king, and said, “Let my lord King David live forever!”


Solomon said, “If he shows himself a worthy man, not a hair of his will fall to the earth; but if wickedness is found in him, he will die.”


When the time for David to die came near, he commanded Solomon his son, saying,


The king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, “Build yourself a house in Jerusalem, and live there, and don’t go anywhere else.


My son, fear YHWH and the king. Don’t join those who are rebellious,
