¶ Then spake his disciples to him: if the matter be so between man and wife, then is it not good to marry.


He said unto them: Moses be cause of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: But from the beginning it was not so.


But I say unto you: whosoever put away his wife, (except it be for fornication) causeth her to break matrimony. And whosoever marrieth her that is divorced, breaketh wedlock.


Whosoever forsaketh his wife, and marrieth another, breaketh matrimony. And every man which marrieth her that is divorced from her husband committeth advoutry also.


¶ There goeth a common saying that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not once named among the gentiles: that one should have his father's wife.


The wife is bound to the law as long as her husband liveth. If her husband sleep, she is at liberty to marry with whom she will only in the Lord.


The wife hath not power over her own body: but the husband: And likewise the man hath not power over his own body: but the wife.
