¶ Then went the pharises and took counsel, how they might tangle him in his words.


Iesus perceived their wickedness, and said: Why tempt ye me ye hypocrites?


and one of them which was a doctor of law asked him a question tempting him and saying:


¶ And they sent unto him certain of the pharises with Herode's servants, to take him in his words.


and they watched him to see, if he would heal him on the saboth day, that they might accuse him.


¶ When he thus spake unto them, the lawyers, and the pharises, began to wax busy about him and to stop his mouth with many questions,


¶ And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves perfect, to take him in his words, and to deliver him unto the power, and authority of the president.


And they could not reprove his saying before the people. And they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.


But follow not their minds: for there lay await for him of them, more than xl. men, which have bound themselves with a vow, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him. And now are they ready, and look for thy promise.
