On that day Adonai cut a covenant with Abram, saying, “I give this land to your seed, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates River:


The name of the third river is Tigris—it runs east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.


David also defeated King Hadadezer son of Rehob of Zobah, as he went to restore his dominion along the River.


“Now when you have finished reading this scroll, you will tie a stone to it and throw it into the middle of the Euphrates.


Turn, journey on, and enter the hill country of the Amorites and all their neighbors, in the Arabah, the hill country, the lowland, the Negev, and by the seashore—the land of the Canaanites and the Lebanon as far as the great river, the Euphrates.


From the wilderness and this Lebanon to the great river, the Euphrates River—all the land of the Hittites— to the Great Sea toward the setting of the sun will be your territory.


The sixth angel poured out his bowl over the great river Euphrates; and its water was dried up, to prepare the way for the kings from the east.


After this, I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth so that no wind would blow on the earth or on the sea or against any tree.


Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He cried out with a loud voice to the four angels who were permitted to harm the earth and the sea,


Then I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.


Then the seven angels holding the seven trumpets prepared to sound them.


So the four angels—who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year—were released to kill a third of mankind.
